Laura Nyro was one of the most important female singer/songwriters of the '60s and '70s. She died in 1997 at the age of 49 due to complications from ovarian cancer. Among other great songs, she wrote "Wedding Bell Blues," "Stoned Soul Picnic," " When I Die," "Stoney End" and "Eli's Comin,'" all hits for other artists from Barbra Striesand and the 5th Dimension to Blood Sweat and Tears. She was also one of the first major acts managed by David Geffen at the beginning of his career.
