Jefferson Airplane Poster Fillmore East 1968. This is a New Artist's Edition Signed and Numbered Edition limited to 100 copies. Numbered, annotated and signed in pencil by David Byrd.
"This was my second poster for the Fillmore East and was based on a fascination I had for Egyptian temple painting and my feeling that Grace Slick could have been a Queen of the Nile, at least she could drink like one. The show was opened by Arthur Brown, who at the time was famous for setting his hair on fire as a finale. I conceived of the Airplane band standing on the wing of an Egyptian biplane, in hues of terra-cotta, turquoise, & ochre watercolor with black Ink on a cream-colored board." - David Byrd
This poster is in the Collection of the Museum of Modern Art, NYC & The Museum of Rock, Cleveland.
This is David Byrd's very nice reproduction of the poster he designed for the Jefferson Airplane's appearance at the Fillmore East in May, 1968. Byrd was the only staff artist at the Fillmore East. This is the third edition of this poster. The original which was given away at the shows was joined by an edition which was inserted in the RCA Record live album from the shows.
It is impeccably printed on ultra-premium matte stock and has been signed in pencil by David.
Condition: Flawless Mint Dimensions: 14" x 22"
David Byrd has secured a place in rock poster history. But along the way he has made dozens of highly memorable, iconic poster images for not only the Fillmore East (where he was the only poster artist), but for Broadway shows such as Follies, Tommy, Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, Little Shop of Horrors and many, many more.
