This is an original student-created full program for the 5th Annual 1971 UC Jazz Festival, AKA UC Berkeley Jazz Festival. Sun Ra, Yusef Lateef, Rashan Roland Kirk, Alice Coltrane and Stanley Turrentine were among the performers.
According to Billboard Magazine's April 3, 1971 edition, "'Realities' is the theme of the University of California Jazz Festival set for April 19-25. Monday through Thursday performances will be held in Pauley Ballroom, Friday and Saturday afternoon and night performanes to be at the Greek Theatre, with the Sunday afternoon finale slated for Zellerbach Auditorium.
Entertainers included: Prince Lasha and Afro-Dance Group, April 19; U.C. Jazz Ensemble and Clydene Jackson Trio, April 20; NIDKGO, April 231; Hugh Masekea and the Union of South Africa, April 22. Two more acts will be added to the April 21 and 22 shows. Performances started at 8 PM.
April 23 performances included The Last Poets, Alice Coltrane and Sun Ra. April 24 saw John Handy, Fay Carrol and Martha Young Trio and Sonny Simmons. Rounding out the lineup on the two days were Lateef, Roland-Kirk, Turrentine, The Believers, Voices of Joy and New Generation.
